When we were chosen as a winner out of 5,000+ entries in Dometic’s Follow The Sun competition, no words can describe how excited we were. Not only did our caravan receive a $25,000 makeover with the latest and greatest in Dometic products as a prize, but we travelled for three months on their behalf, to raise awareness and funds for National Breast Cancer Foundation.
If that wasn’t good enough, our expenses were paid, and we hosted many happy hours in caravan parks along the way while promoting the Dometic brand name and its products. Never being one to shy away from a crowd, we entertained hundreds of caravan park visitors by sharing travel stories and playing a few games, while providing drinks, nibbles, prizes, and giveaways. Basically we had a lot of fun! We even had time for some R&R, so we visited loads of tourist attractions and simply had a blast.
Our trip started in Cairns and we zig-zagged between the Queensland coast and inland before heading into outback New South Wales and into SA’s Riverland region. We then continued to SA’s Coorong and into Victoria’s Grampian region, followed by some time around Melbourne, Ballarat, and the Great Ocean Road. Our final happy hour was in the small country town of Clunes and the finale at Nagambie.
Many businesses came on board to support our fundraising efforts, and to every business, caravan park, and everyone that attended our happy hours, a massive THANKS! It was through all your support that at the end of the three months, we ended up raising just over $14,000 for NBCF. Since finishing our trip, we’ve spoken about our travels and adventures on behalf of Dometic at caravan and 4×4 shows, and continue to promote our products when writing and travelling.
While the trip may be over, we have many amazing memories of people met and places visited. The Aussie spirit is still alive and well, and we were so humbled to have experienced it firsthand.
